Sandra Grace Storey
Whitehorse Yukon

Sandra Grace Storey was born and grew up in Whitehorse, Yukon. Due to severe asthma, a great deal of her childhood was spent in hospital where she read about animals and mythology; drew pictures and created figures in plasticine.

In 1985, Sandra’s foundation year at Emily Carr School of Art, she realized her voice and passion were connected to sculpture, clay, folklore and mythology.  Instructors Sally Michener, Geoff Rees, George Rammel and Tom Hudson would influence Sandra.

After graduating with distinction in 1990, Sandra co-founded the professional artists collective, Wild Oats Studio in Vancouver, BC.  After only two years, she found herself sailing to New Zealand with her brand new Kiwi husband.

In Whangarei, Sandra co-founded the glass and ceramic studio, Burning Issues Gallery, 1995. Between 1995-2003 Sandra taught at the Northland Polytechnic, Whangarei and at Mangakahia Area School, Titoki.

Her professional practice took her to Seoul, South Korea where she participated in the Pacific Rim Exhibition, Seoul National Ceramic and Art Museum, Hongik University, 1997.  Sandra did a JICA Ceramic Arts Residency in Seoul, South Korea, in the same year.

It was 2006 before Sandra found herself back in the Yukon. Since returning to the North Storey has Curated the Yukon Art Center Public Gallery exhibition Roots, 2009, on behalf of the Yukon Art Society/Arts Underground and is currently Curator of Lineages and Linkages, a pan-Yukon mentoring and exhibition project.

Storey has work in many public and private collections in Canada, USA, South Korea and New Zealand including the Whangarei Museum Permanent Collection, Whangarei, New Zealand; Eastern Southland Gallery Permanent Collection, Gore, New Zealand; and Seoul National Ceramic and Art Museum Permanent Collection, Seoul, South Korea.

Picture

Randall Finnerty
Montreal Quebec

Randall Finnerty is a visual artist who has been working for a number of years with charcoal and dried pigment on paper, portraying a cast of animal and human characters that are often set in wilderness environments or on the periphery of human settlements. Rooted in his experiences of growing up in northern Ontario, these images reflect upon our disjointed relationship with nature. Flying objects, highways and power lines are the tentacles that project outward from civilization into the natural world. By placing animals among the detritus of our civilization, they bear curious witness to the things in which we engage.

Originally from Timmins, Ontario, Randall Finnerty studied art at York University, Sheridan College and Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. He has lived and worked in Montreal since 1992. He has exhibited his work in group and solo exhibitions in Ontario and Quebec, and his work has appeared in a variety of art publications. Randall Finnerty's work is held in important public and private collections including the Canada Council Art Bank and the Cirque du Soleil. When not drawing on paper, he works at the National Film Board of Canada as the Senior Computer Graphics Animator in the English Animation Studio, where he has worked on a number of award winning animated short films.
